Black grapes have been grown in Europe and Asia for over 6,000 years. The black grapes we enjoy today (Vitis vinifera) come in two varieties — one grows in Western Asia near the Black Sea, and the other grows in the Americas. Most are cultivated for use in wine, but they also make a delicious and healthy snack.

How do black grapes grow?

Before planting bare root vines

  1. Soak the roots in water for 3-4 hours.
  2. At planting, remove all canes except the most vigorous one.
  3. Plant vines with the lowest bud on the cane just above the soil surface.
  4. Trim off any broken or excessively long roots.
  5. Dig a hole large enough to you can spread the root system out.

What benefits do black grapes have?

Grapes with darker skins contain better amounts of nutrients and flavonoids. In addition, black grapes are richer in antioxidants than green or red grape varieties. As a result, they preserve your cell functions. Thus, they protect you from diabetes, Alzheimer's, cancer, Parkinson's, and heart disease.

Concord grapes are a deep blue-black color, large, and extremely sweet.
